Prerequisites

When to go abroad?

The basic requirement for a stay should be knowledge of the English language. This is even more important as it provides the ability of coping with daily life in school and helps you to get to know the other students. However, should you feel uncertain about your language skills, we will be happy to arrange additional tuition at our partner school. Among others, the most popular time for visiting a boarding school is the 11th grade at the beginning of the “Oberstufe” in a German school, as it is comparable to the English sixth form, as it provides the possibility of coming back to Germany and finish school in the regular time. Should you wish to stay longer and finish your school career in Britain, you can choose between the regular “A-Levels” or the “International Baccalaureate (IB)” after two years with the chance to study at a British university like Oxford, Cambridge or one of the London colleges.
However, should you wish to visit a boarding school earlier, you can consider taking the GCSE exams at the end of the 10th school year.

The length of the stay should be thought about carefully as the requirements in the German system vary in each county. We will be happy to consult you.

Requirements?

In general, every pupil is qualified to join a Public School, if he or she has completed primary school in Germany successfully.
In contrast to the German system there are few formal restrictions for students wishing to join the sixth form: you should have passed 5 subjects at GCSE level in Germany with English being one of them. However, some of the participating schools require entrance examinations to judge your knowledge. Thereby they can assist you in choosing the appropriate form and courses.
Thus, the results obtained in Germany are still important, but not the decisive argument whether to go to Britain or not. The willingness to be open and tolerant to a new lifestyle as well as the preparedness to see new situations in a positive light are as important for a successful personal development as good grades in school.

Costs?

The school year in Britain is subdivided into three terms. One term approximately costs between 6.000 and 10.000 pounds.
Therefore, the total costs of one school year amount to 30.000 - 35.000 Euro.

Registration periods

Although there are no formal registration periods, you should allow some weeks for to organise your stay. Especially for well-known schools an application should be submitted as early as one year in advance.
